Back here for the second time — very affordable prices with tasty food that’s definitely worth what you pay. There are lots of sauce options from the machine, which is nice. You order through a machine and wait for your number to be called, so there’s no table service. The food comes out fairly quickly, but it might take longer when there are many online or takeaway orders.

One of our favorites from when we lived in Tokyo. My wife is addicted to the garlic-sauced karaage and happily devoured a combo bowl that also included pork. I was more basic and got a meal plate with salt and garlic pork and should have paid extra for more meat -- a tasty plate, but with so much rice it wasn't particularly balanced.

Sutadonya is a national chain that sells a variation of their pork rice bowls aka the “star bowls”. They are a quick and cheap eat option with meal prices ranging from 630¥ – 1,000¥. Each meal also comes with a raw egg and miso soup to go with your rice bowl incase you didn’t think it was cheap enough. We ordered the classic garlic Sutadon (630¥) and the Sutadon with gyoza combo (910¥). Their classic and most famous flavor is garlic. The fatty pork strips are tossed with garlic and some green onions served over rice with some white radish. The pork was savory sweet with the garlic pairing and the drippings covered the rice. Mixed with raw egg the who bowl was nutty and fluffy, I could easily eat two of these it’s just so delicious. The gyoza was average nothing notable but it was a great side dish and made it a full meal along with the miso soup. Their menu is 80% pork based with a small section for fried chicken rice bowls. Their pork bowls come in other flavor base variations such as green onion, kimchi, cheese, etc. Their combos like our gyoza combo includes a small salad and the extra side dish you choose. The side dishes include fried chicken, small ramen, almond pudding, etc. Their fried chicken menu is basically just a mountain of karaage (fried chicken), rice, miso soup, and a side salad. Depending on the amount of chicken you order it ranges from 6-13 pieces at a price of 730¥ - 990¥. So, if you’re looking for some cheap eats give Sutadonya a try. They’re in every major Japanese city and also a few US cities as well.

Had the signature bowl + chicken side Food was great and service was quick despite being somewhat busy. Portions were generous and very filling. Would go again!

Had the fried chicken, while the wife had the garlic pork. We enjoyed both very much. The portion sizes were very generous and I struggled to finish. Would say the meals were good value.
